Nationalism

Author: jason parsons

As our nation comes closer and closer to electing a new leader to guide us through these dire times of crisis I am astonished to see this country suddenly engrossed in yet another McCarthy-like panic towards what many think as a socialist overtaking of our government policies that may be ahead.  The Democratic Party's candidate has outlined in what he believes is the best way to handle the lacking of our Governments ability to care for its citizens.  The conservatives have denounced his plan as socialistic and that if he is elected the fabric of our democratic society will crumble as if we have become the new USSR.

The Declaration of Independence assures each of us “unalienable rights that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.”  Our failed policies of the past have fallen short I am afraid and at least one of these rights doesn't apply to those who are less fortunate.  I, of course, am referring to Life.  We are the most powerful nation in the world.  Though our economy is in what I believe is a recession, we still have more than most others that live on this small planet.  Some of our own citizens have more wealth than entire nations, yet we have no central health plan for each of our citizens.  Health is a fundamental human right that all should have rich or poor.  Europe has it, we do not.  We consider ourselves the standard among nations, yet we refuse to provide a basic human right.  We chastise other nations and turn up our noses at the human rights violations committed in other parts of the world, yet many of our own citizens are dying without care.  Is that not a violation of human rights?  We send billions and billions of dollars worth of aid to each corner of the world, some of which goes to nations that want to do us harm, yet millions of Americans are cannot afford to insure themselves or get the proper medical care they require.

The Liberals and many independents have been pleading with our Government to find a solution to our healthcare issues but when an idea is expressed, the conservative right screams Socialism.  These Senators lobby against government subsidized healthcare while they enjoy their own subsidized healthcare plans provided to them by our tax dollars.  Is a nationwide healthcare plan that is government funded socialism?   I think not.  It is a fundamental right of all of us that we should be guaranteed.  We must make a stand and refuse to accept another year of excuses, another year of supporting every nation but ours.  This isn't socialism, this is nationalism and we should expect all of our leaders to first be nationalists, then democrats or republicans.  I challenge all citizens of this great nation to support a nationalist movement that truly puts America First!
